5 Days Birding and Wildlife

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome from your Escosphere Safaris driver-guide in Kampala or Entebbe, after a brief briefing, set off southwest toward Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most popular and biodiverse wildlife destination.

Enjoy scenic views of the countryside, tea plantations, and crater lakes along the way. Stop at the Equator line for photos and lunch in Mbarara before continuing to the park. As you enter, you may spot elephants or antelopes grazing near the road.

Check in at your lodge, relax, and prepare for the next day’s exploration.

Start your day with an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains, home to lions, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and various bird species like the Grey Crowned Crane, Black-bellied Bustard, and Long-crested Eagle.

Return to the lodge for breakfast and lunch before heading for an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The cruise offers spectacular birding opportunities, including sightings of African Skimmers, Great White Pelicans, African Fish Eagles, and Kingfishers. You’ll also spot hippos, crocodiles, and elephants cooling off near the water.

Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, depart Queen Elizabeth for Lake Mburo National Park, a haven for both wildlife and birds. This park is home to impalas, zebras, elands, giraffes, and over 315 bird species.

Arrive in time for lunch and take an afternoon boat ride on Lake Mburo, where you’ll enjoy close views of African Finfoots, Pied Kingfishers, and Cormorants. Later, go for an evening game drive through the acacia woodland to spot nocturnal birds such as the Nightjar and Owl species.

Enjoy an early morning birding walk with your Escosphere Safaris guide, exploring different habitats including forest edges, swamps, and open savannah. Expect to encounter birds such as Crested Francolin, Lilac-breasted Roller, Brown Parrot, Red-faced Barbet, and Narina Trogon.

In the afternoon, go for another game drive or guided nature walk, where you can spot both wildlife and birdlife at your own pace.
